Choosing the Right Toothbrush & Toothpaste

From toothpaste to dental chews, it’s important to choose the right products for your pet’s smile. Keep in mind that when you’re looking for a new toothpaste or toothbrush be sure to choose one that has been made specifically for dogs  or cats. Human  toothpaste should never be used in dogs. These foaming products contain ingredients that are not intended to be swallowed and that could cause internal problems. Numerous pet toothpastes that are non-foaming and safe to be swallowed are available in flavors that are appealing to dogs and cats. Your veterinarian can also help by recommending certain dental products for use at home.

Some products we currently recommend are Virbac’s CET Toothpaste, Virbac’s CET Dual End Toothbrushes and Fingerbrushes, Virbac’s Cat Dental Treats, and OxyFresh Water Additive.

It’s never too late to start! Although we do recommend starting dental care when they are puppies and kittens. Starting this young gets pets used to the routine and makes it easier in the future for brushing and during dental examinations.
